How Laser Hair Removal Works
Our laser technicians uses the Icon IPL (intense pulsed light) laser to safely and effectively remove unwanted hair. This specialized laser targets hair growth cells specifically, and vaporizes existing hair. The Icon laser targets hair cells in various stages of the growth cycle, so multiple treatments are required in order for it to be effective.
Candidates for Laser Hair Removal
If you are tired of spending your time shaving, waxing, and tweezing away unwanted hair from your face, neck, back, underarms, legs, or bikini area, you may be a good candidate for laser hair removal. Our advanced laser technology allows us to treat patients with various skin and hair color combinations. Individual results will vary. Some patients will require more treatments depending on the color and type of their skin and hair, and type and the size of the treatment area. It is important to understand that laser hair removal does not permanently eliminate hair. Hair regrowth can occur within several months to a year or more following your initial treatments. However, the new growth will be lighter in color, finer in texture, and there will be less hair overall.
What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal
During your initial consultation, one of our technicians will explain the treatment process and the results you can expect. Then he will evaluate your desired treatment area(s) to determine if you are a good candidate for laser hair removal. He will also be able to estimate the number of treatments you will require.
This simple procedure permanently reduces hair in targeted areas so you can focus your time and efforts on more important things.
Laser hair removal is performed at our office, in a comfortable laser room with a serene and relaxing environment. Prior to treatment, a numbing gel may be applied to the treatment area to reduce discomfort. You will be given protective eyewear, and an assistant will hold your skin taut as our laser technician applies the handheld laser to the treatment area. Then you will simply relax throughout treatment. Most patients report a warm sensation and mild discomfort akin to that of a rubber band snapping against their skin.
After each treatment, you will experience some redness and swelling in the treatment area, which should subside within a few hours. You may return to your regular activities right away. It is important to avoid unprotected or prolonged sun exposure and to follow your post-treatment care instructions carefully. Most patients will receive an average of six total treatments over four to six weeks until all visible hair has been eliminated.
Benefits of Laser Hair Removal
Perhaps the greatest benefit of laser hair removal is the time and money saved on shaving and waxing. Patients typically see an immediate reduction in visible hair after a single treatment and complete elimination over the course of several treatments. Although laser hair removal does not permanently remove all hair, it does provide a permanent reduction in overall hair growth. Best of all, laser hair removal eliminates the need to bring a razor on vacation and waste precious time shaving unwanted hair. You can confidently wear a bikini or other beach gear without worrying about unsightly hair or razor burn.
