"Another great experience for me at 5th Avenue. I had the Red Carpet Facial before a special party and loved it. 90 minutes of relaxation and pampering. The results were amazing. My skin was moist and plumped up. I love going to 5th Avenue. Everyone is so nice and professional. I would not go anywhere else for treatments or facials. Thank you for always making me feel special and pretty.  My skin care needs. Thank you!!"

A Treatment Available in a Variety of Strengths

Mild

Also known as a superficial peel, this procedure removes the outermost layer of skin and can be completed in under an hour, making it a convenient option that can easily fit into your schedule. A mild chemical solution such as alpha-hydroxy acid will be used to address coarse skin and minor discoloration. Repeated procedures can be completed every two to five weeks as necessary.

Medium

For more moderate skin conditions such as age spots, freckles, acne scars, and fine lines and wrinkles, a stronger chemical solution will be used. Our doctor will apply glycolic or trichloroacetic acid to remove the outer layer of skin and the upper part of your middle layer of skin. This procedure can be repeated every three weeks until the desired results are attained.

Deep

During this procedure, our esthetician will apply phenol or trichloroacetic acid to treat moderate to severe skin damage and deep wrinkles. Chemical peels at this level must only be completed once, but will penetrate the middle to deep layers of the skin to dramatically improve its appearance. Deep chemical peels may not be suitable for patients with darker skin tones.

The Chemical Peel Procedure

During an initial consultation, our esthetician will determine if you're a good candidate for the chemical peel treatments we offer. Together, you can go over your medical history, undergo an exam, and discuss your goals and expectations.

Your chemical peel procedure will involve:

Cleaning the Skin

Your esthetician will first clean your skin to remove dirt and oil.

Chemical Peel Application

They will then apply a chemical solution to the outer layer of the skin. You may feel a numbing or tingling sensation.

Chemical Peel

The solution will remain on your skin for a predetermined amount of time.

Wash Treated Area

After treatment, the peel is washed off with a gentle cleanser.

Shed Skin

Though it may take a few days for your skin to peel, you can expect the rapid shedding of your skin to occur. This can last for a few days.
Depending on the intensity of your peel, skin concerns, and skin type, more than one chemical peel treatment may be necessary to achieve the desired results.

Aftercare

Following your treatment at our office outside of Atlanta, you can expect redness, tightness, and dry, flaking skin.

As your skin peels, try to use a gentle cleanser and sunscreen. Avoid using harsh skin products like retinoids and acids. You should also try to limit sun exposure. You may be tempted to pick at your skin as it peels, but this can lead to scarring. Let the peeling happen naturally.

Don't wear makeup until you have been cleared by our practice. You can expect to have to wait a week or longer. Patients are also advised to avoid strenuous exercise that can lead to excessive sweating during the peeling process.

Featured Chemical Peels

Different chemical peels treat different skin conditions. At Skin Care at 5th Ave., serving the greater Atlanta area, we can provide different types of chemical peels, including the VI Peel and Perfect Derma Peel.

VI Peel

Commonly used to treat signs of aging, sun damage, skin texture irregularities, and discoloration, the VI peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that exfoliates the skin and encourages the production of new proteins.

This peel can be used on all skin types and tones and is safe to use in a variety of areas, including the face, chest, back, hands, and eyelids.

Perfect Derma Peel

The Perfect Derma Peel is typically used to tighten and brighten the skin, as well as reduce acne and sun damage.

This treatment comes with an at-home kit that includes a moisturizer and towelettes that can calm the redness, tightness, and itching you may experience in the days following your procedure.

Understanding the Risks and Benefits of Chemical Peels

The possible side effects of chemical peels include burns, scarring, and changes to the pigmentation of your skin. However, choosing a trusted medical professional such as Dr. Galitzin to perform your treatment can significantly reduce your risk for complications.

The many benefits of a chemical peel include:

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Youthful and healthy-looking appearance
  • Smoother, brighter-looking skin tone and texture
  • Boosted self-confidence
  • Reduced appearance of scarring and sunspots

Exploring Candidacy for Chemical Peels

Though chemical peels can treat a variety of skin concerns, not everyone is a viable candidate. Our doctor treating the greater Atlanta area can determine if you're a good candidate during an initial consultation.

You may not be a good candidate for a chemical peel if you:

  • Are pregnant or nursing
  • Were recently pregnant
  • Are taking Accutane or Retin-A
  • Are prone to scarring
  • Have severe acne, open wounds, sunburn, or infection
  • Have sensitive skin
  • Have skin conditions like psoriasis, rosacea, or eczema
"I can't say enough. Wonderful. A pleasure. Dr. Joseph Galitzin is an artist at skincare and the most gentle touch in treatment. He is thoroughly knowledgeable in not only the abc's of the process, but like a sculptor and well trained physician knows the infrastructure of the face and body and relies on that. He SPENDS TIME with me. He discusses things with me. I'm not chattel to be run in and out like some "medspa" grist mill. This is not some run of the mill medspa. His staff is delightful, accommodating, WELL ORGANIZED and I'm not sitting there forever either! I am a permanent client forever."
