LASER HAIR REMOVAL OR LASER HAIR REDUCTION? By Skin Care at 5th Ave on June 21, 2019

LET'S BE HONEST... IT IS LASER HAIR REDUCTION.

Can we say laser hair removal?

Well, that may be right, but because the laser does not remove all the hairs, and even the hairs removed can regenerate, it’ll be proper to call it ‘Laser Hair Reduction.’ However, because most people know this procedure as “Laser hair removal,” we will use that term moving forward.

Laser Hair Removal

If you’re the type that’s not accustomed to tweezing, waxing, or shaving to remove unwanted hair from your body, you may want to resort to the laser hair reduction option. Laser hair removal is one of the most popularly used cosmetic procedures in the United States. What the laser does is that it penetrates deep into your skin beaming highly strong light into your hair follicles to destroy the hair from the root.

Why patients prefer Laser Hair Removal Procedures

Precision

Lasers can be directed to a particular hair follicle for destruction. It can be used to target dark, coarse hairs without having to destroy the surrounding skin.

Speed

The pulse from a laser takes less than a second to reach and treat as many hairs as possible at the same time. This light can destroy the hair follicles in a particular area of the skin in approximately a quarter of every second. The technique can be used to treat smaller parts of the body like the lips in less than a minute and other large parts of the body like the back or legs can take up to an hour.

Predictability

The laser can be used to permanently prevent hair from growing in a particular part of the body. However, this may take between three to seven sessions.

What to Expect When You Go for a Laser Hair Removal procedure

Before going for a laser hair removal procedure, please note that the treatment involves penetrating few millimeters below your skin surface. It may be painful. The laser specialist will have to adjust the laser equipment according to the thickness, location, and color of your skin. Depending on light source or laser to be used, you and the doctor will have to wear proper eye protection. You will also need to guard your skin with a particular cooling device or a cold gel. This will make it easy for the light to penetrate your skin.

The specialist will concentrate the pulse of light to the part to be treated for several minutes until the treatment is done. After the session, you’ll be given anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, ice packs, or cold water to relief you from any discomfort.

The primary reason why this process should be called laser hair reduction is that the hair cannot be entirely removed in one session. You’ll need to schedule follow-up treatment sessions, at a six weeks interval, up to 6-8 times for you to achieve total hair removal.
