Introduction

Introduction to Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing

Flaws such as wrinkles and acne scars can be difficult to treat and can lead to feelings of embarrassment. Treating your skin with Fraxel®—a kind of laser technology—can increase collagen production to rejuvenate the skin. If you’re ready to hit the reset button on your skin but wish to avoid an ablative procedure, laser resurfacing can refresh your appearance for a more youthful glow. Advanced Fraxel® technology helps reduce telltale signs of aging and improve the texture and tone. This minimally invasive solution offers less downtime and recovery for convenience and efficiency. At Skin Care at 5th Ave, in Peachtree City, GA Dr. Joseph Galitzin is dedicated to providing his greater Atlanta Skin Resurfacing patients with safe, customized treatment plans to help them achieve beautiful skin.

What is Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Fraxel is a laser treatment that uses fractional resurfacing to reduce signs of aging. No surgery or harsh ablative lasers are necessary. This non-invasive technology can deliver the same results as other treatments in just one appointment with little downtime. Fraxel lasers can treat different areas of the body, including the face, neck, hands, arms, and décolletage. It also works on darker skin tones without causing hyperpigmentation.

Fraxel can treat patients with early signs of aging and cosmetic blemishes, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars or scars from surgery
  • Pigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Actinic keratosis

During a consultation with Dr. Joseph C. Galitzin at our office outside of Atlanta, GA, you can discuss your skin concerns and goals. He can examine your skin and determine if you’re a good candidate for Fraxel treatment or a different skin care procedure.

What to Expect on the Day of Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing

Before your procedure, we may apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to ensure your comfort. A highly trained member of our team will then gently apply a specialized handheld device to your skin, moving it slowly across the surface. This state-of-the-art instrument can target specific areas of skin, delivering a safe and precise treatment. During the resurfacing process, you may experience a warming sensation and minor irritation. However, discomfort is generally very mild.

Typically, your procedure can last between 15 to 45 minutes, depending upon the size of the treatment area.

Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery

When your laser skin treatment is complete, we will apply a special ointment to prevent scabbing and reduce irritation. To prevent scarring or infection, you should continue to apply ointment as directed and follow our recovery instructions. The Fraxel laser won’t prevent you from performing your regular activities. You can expect some mild side effects after treatment, such as swelling that lasts for up to a week, and some redness and peeling around the treatment area. During the first few weeks after Fraxel treatment, be sure to wear sunscreen and avoid harsh skin products. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturize twice each day. Do not pick at your skin as this can lead to scarring.

Healing can last several weeks. During the first week of recovery, you may experience some swelling, however, this should fade fairly quickly, and most patients can return to their usual activities within one to two weeks. For patients who undergo more extensive treatments, redness can persist for up to several months after the procedure. However, this discoloration can be easily covered with makeup.

How Much Does Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost in Peachtree City, GA?

The cost of Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing in the Atlanta area is determined by numerous factors, including the number of sessions you will need and the surface area being treated. The best way to find out how much your treatment will be is to come in for your consultation and have a treatment plan created for you. Once this is done, our Patient Coordinator will be able to provide you with a cost breakdown for the entirety of your treatment.

Fraxel FAQs

Is Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing painful?

Unlike other laser treatments, the Fraxel procedure doesn't remove layers of skin, resulting in a faster and more comfortable treatment experience. Though you may experience some redness, peeling, and swelling as you heal, it typically isn't as significant as other treatments.

How many appointments will I need?

To achieve the most significant, lasting transformation, many patients undergo more than one treatment. You can expect to have about three to five sessions spaced about two to four weeks apart. To help you achieve your cosmetic goals, our team will work closely with you to create a customized treatment plan.

How long until I see results?

You can expect to see noticeable improvements within two weeks of your procedure, as a new layer of healthy skin forms. However, it can take several weeks to see the full results of your enhanced, rejuvenated appearance.

Can I combine Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing with other procedures?

Absolutely! Our Skin Resurfacing patients in the Atlanta area often choose to get other skin rejuvenation procedures performed, such as BOTOX, Chemical Peels, or a HydraFacial.  If you are looking to achieve a particular aesthetic look or have certain needs for your skin, please discuss this with Dr. Galitzin or an Aesthetic team member during your consultation. They will be more than happy to help you pick the best treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals.

What are the risks associated with Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing?

When performed by a skilled technician, Fraxel Laser Skin Resurfacing is very safe, and Dr. Galitzin and his team take your health and safety very seriously. There are certain risks and side effects associated with the treatment, including:
  • Acne
  • Changes in skin color
  • Infection
  • Itchy and/or burning sensation
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Scarring
  • Swelling
Most of these side effects should heal on their own in a few hours up until a few days, however, if you do experience any concerning or long-lasting reactions, please contact our office immediately.
